	Vacuum Tank Working Principle of Vacuum Tank. Construction: Its a cylindrical tank with outlets on each side. 100% Stainless Steel Made. Installation: Its mainly connected on to the Intake Manifold either at the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) or before the Brake Booster. It must be fitted after the Throttle. Theory: How the Engine Control Unit (ECU) manages the Engine in this aspect. The ECU is directly reading and controlling the engine. One of the main parameter is the amount of air intake. It is being measured by the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor or Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor. This reading is used for many aspect of decision. For this topic, we will only talk about Vacuum Tank effects on Air quantity related decision. One of the most important actuation that air quantity/pressure is the gear shift pattern on Automatic Transmission. The Transmission Control Unit (TCU) 'borrowed' the signal from the ECU and read it as Load Sensor. Base on this Load Reading, it will decide on when to upshift or downshift. When your throttle is closed, the pressure will drop (vacuum high), this mean the load is LOW. When you fully open your throttle, the pressure will rise (vacuum low), this mean the load is HIGH. Base on this reading, the TCU will shift its gear according to the parameter set on the Shift Pattern Map. What the Vacuum Tank had done is enlarging the size of the Intake Manifold. By doing this, pressure inside the Manifold will increase (vacuum decrease) on the same degree of opening of the throttle body. With the change in pressure reading, the parameter in the Shift Pattern Map will be breach earlier, making the TCU upshifting or downshift earlier. This will give the driver a sense of 'early' power and torque. Theoretically, vacuum tank should not have impact on fuel consumption(FC), but however, if the driver can make fully use of the advantage of early torque and make the best out of his driving situation, FC can still be improved. Vacuum Tank should NOT have any effect on Manual Transmission Car as the changing of gear is totally in control by the driver.
